Sometimes we find old family photographs and notice our parent’s youth, how they look just like us. I had this experience when I requested some old photographs from my parents. I saw my mom in her late 20s. It was before she met my father, when she was in a public park riding a horse, wearing a red velvet cape as if she was the daughter of 20th century British royalty. What an interesting trend inChina during the 1980's! Her face felt both familiar and strange - as if someone lived another life with my body. This feeling became a mirage, a real scene that’s situated in an unreal setting. I painted and traced my mom's images from those old photographs and made a collage with them and paintings of mine. The 28-year-old mom met the 28-year-old me; our past and present met through mirages.
